The inspiration for the igoMANGO Trust has grown from years of networking between a group of professional environmental scientists developing and contributing to projects realised by Ambios Ltd, a not-for-profit company delivering volunteer and training experience within the natural world. Over the past ten years Ambios projects have been supported and funded by the European Social Fund, the European Voluntary Service, the Heritage Lottery Fund, the European LEONARDO programme and the ‘V’ Project. We have shared projects with volunteering organisations such as Raleigh International and Project Trust. The igoMANGO systems, processes and principles that have evolved from this wealth of experience are recognised by the people we have worked with as having broader utility that simply overseeing Ambios projects, and the Trust was formed in 2007 to take this possibility forward.
The specific objectives of the Trust are:
- To encourage and support volunteer effort to the mutual benefit of wildlife/habitat conservation and enhanced quality of human life.
- To enable and support NGOs to utilise volunteer effort as part of their sustainability strategy, by developing their capacity to recruit and manage volunteers directly.
- To enhance the artistic, scientific and humanistic content of a volunteering experience.
- To widen the base of the social and economic strata from which volunteers are resourced.
We work to realise these objectives by forming partnerships, both with individuals (volunteers) and groups (NGOs). We contribute practical support, advice and funds to these partnerships, addressing such areas as safety, satisfaction, effective working and science. If you think we can help you, please contact us.
