Volunteering

Painting by Silvia Muccio, ARCAS, Central AmericaVolunteering is an empowering process. Often people volunteer without realising they are doing it; helping out a relative with their garden, coaching at their local sports club, staying after school to help with a project. There are thousands of volunteering activities happening every day all over the world allowing people of all walks of life better access to the life they aspire to. At igoMANGO we aspire to the preservation of our planet, its blueness and greenness, its harshness and starkness and the myriad of life-forms that team upon its surface.

HELP NATURE CONSERVATION, HELP YOURSELF

One of the things that has become more apparent with the advent of technology is how closely we are all connected. Through the internet and the television we can access so many different parts of the world around us. Things seem smaller, vulnerable and more precious . The earth is clearly finite and the impact of the demands of an ever increasing population on the world’s resources is becoming more and more evident. We at igoMANGO feel a real and justified need for the conservation of biodiversity. The science of conservation has become a vital and growing field – a poppy-red sea of need and opportunity in the cornfield of life.

But conservation is not an exclusive club for graduates. It is a concept that needs to be at the forefront of everyday life. People should be aware of their impact and should be able to choose, through access to good information, a path through life that is least damaging. This is one of the founding principles of the volunteering activity we promote. We partner with people who want to make a difference to the world and are willing to commit to that challenge. Volunteers may be graduates looking for experience, professionals looking for a career change, interested folk looking to improve their knowledge through giving their time, or disadvantaged people discovering new worlds to explore. Importantly, we strive to catch the attention of people who may not have considered working with the environment before.  Improving access to the natural world through volunteering has the potential to open up people’s minds and make the changes necessary to ensure the wildlife and biodiversity that we enjoy today will be as rich or richer for all our children.
