Full Time Volunteer Conservation Officer Placements 2011

igoMANGO and Ambios are now recruiting full time volunteers for an inspirational project based in South Devon. A 15 week Full Time training placement is available to 18-25 year olds beginning in early January.
We offer volunteers a comprehensive programme of environmental monitoring, practical habitat conservation and community education with accommodation, food, travel and training provided through Vinvolved project funding.
Placements are an ideal opportunity for young people to gain practical skills in environmental conservation and outdoor learning. Whether you’re hoping to build on previous education with practical experience or looking for a total career change the project is highly varied and we welcome your application. Candidates should be committed to a 15 week placement, outgoing and flexible within an evolving working environment.
This January there are four specific pathways on offer, each working closely with a local partner organisation. The majority of your time will be dedicated to assisting one of the following:
- Wildlife Conservation Placement
The Barn Owl Trust - Outdoor Education Placement
Sharpham Outdoors - Marine Science Placement
Ambios Ltd/Ambios Environmental Consultants - Conservation/Estate Management placement

The rest of your time will be spent along side your co-volunteers to address local conservation needs through a wide variety of partnership projects:
- Habitat monitoring programmes focusing on protected species – dormice, bats, badgers, barn owls, river and marsh, woodland
- Community based environmental projects in disadvantaged areas across South Devon.
- Public learning events aiming to connect science with society
- Sustainable use demonstration – vegetable gardening, energy saving initiatives, site improvements etc.
Skills and Training Received:
- Work with children, youth and disadvantaged groups in outdoor education
- Wildlife Species Identification
- Partnership Networking – gain opportunities through local avenues
- Land management skills – pathway development, stepping, woodland management etc.
- CRB Check
- NVQ Level 2 (Part 2)
- John Muir Award
- Lantra Chainsaw Certificate
- Further Training module of your choice

2020VISION Young Champions

20 young volunteers, aged 16-24, will be provided with a world class experience in creating still images, video and sound of conservation work - an opportunity to learn skills and gain knowledge in an area that they may be traditionally excluded from, owing to cost, access and lack of experience. The young people will benefit from unique access to some of the leading photographers in the UK and gain access to career opportunities that would otherwise not exist. The young people engaged in the project will provide a different perspective on 2020VISION that can be more easily communicated and targeted to their peers.

Autumn Festival and Apple Pressing Day

Get involved in an autumnal activity day for the whole family, with a variety of environmental workshops and demonstrations along with lots of juicy apple pressing. The Sharpham Trust is supported by our onsite volunteers who will help you get stuck into activities that could make you more employable and will definitely be enjoyable!
Come along for some delicious apple juice, and learn more about the Estate and the IgoMANGO opportunities on offer.

Wetter and Better!
Youngs Park, Goodrington, Paignton, Devon
Support an exciting conservation project in its infancy where your input can really make a difference.
Youngs Park is a historic watery wilderness close to the rusty sands of Torbay. This modest nature reserve is in huge need of some love and attention and with your volunteer help we can encourage biodiversity to flourish in this unique area of massive potential.
Join in with a variety of species monitoring or habitat management strategies and work towards recognised qualifications whilst having fun in a landscape which will really benefit from your input.
Volunteer days commence soon on Wednesdays between 10am and 4pm, Lunch will be provided and up to £10 travel expenses will be paid for each day provided you can commit to at least 5 days of volunteering.

LUPTON TRUST COMMUNITY VEGETABLE GARDEN
Lupton House, Brixham, Devon
IgoMANGO is working with The Lupton Trust to create a community vegetable garden. There are lots of opportunities to get involved like dry stone walling or planting and harvesting. Work within a team to develop your botanical skills and provide a service to the community.
Lunch will be provided and up to £10 travel expenses will be paid for each day provided you can commit to at least 5days of volunteering.

WHITLEY WILDLIFE CONSERVATION TRUST AT PAIGNTON ZOO
Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, Totnes Road, Paignton, Devon.
Work with the Paignton Zoo conservation ranger on a whole host of practical habitat management activities. There is an ongoing slot on Wednesdays for volunteers hoping to get stuck in to some really worthwhile graft, whist enhancing your skills and your CV too!

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

The Sharpham Trust, Ashprington, Totnes, Devon, TQ9 7UT
The Sharpham Estate is a 500 acre estate set on the River Dart. You will be working alongside our team of full-time volunteers on a variety of practical conservation tasks, making a real difference to local wildlife like step-building, vegetable gardening, chopping wood, clearing vegetation. Make use of this opportunity to give back to nature whist developing you practical skills and employability.
Support is offered towards training and up to £10 travel expenses will be paid for each day provided you can commit to at least 5days of volunteering.
The project is part of the IgoMANGO initiative, run by Ambios Ltd, and funded by v. Volunteers should be aged between 16-25.

MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS
Calling all creatives!
IgoMANGO is currently offering opportunities to make your creativity count towards our ambitious environmental charity.
We are currently offering group workshops to volunteers specialising in digital medias who want to use their skills to raise igoMANGOs profile in the environmental sector. You could be specialising in Design, Filmmaking, Creative Writing, Marketing & PR, Photography, Publicity or Sound Recording as well as gaining practical skills in environmental conservation.
Support is offered towards training and up to £10 travel expenses will be paid for each day provided you can commit to at least 5days of volunteering.

COB ROUNDHOUSE RENOVATION
This is a valuable opportunity to learn ancient and natural construction techniques as part of an ambitious project just outside of Totnes, Devon. Working along side adults fro m the Robert Owen community you will be renovating a traditional wattle and daub round house and improving the surrounding landscape. This will take place on Thursdays during November 2010.
Lunch will be provided and up to £10 travel expenses will be paid for each day provided you can commit to at least 5days of volunteering.
