Connections
MANGO brings the opportunity to open another thread of your life ... far from your current home. Our projects are all based in small communities, experiencing life at its simplest level - traditions of farming, fishing, cooking, arts and crafts. You wont be a tourist, or living apart in a expedition camp, you will be absorbed into the local pattern of life - eating, sleeping, talking, and sometimes squabbling with local families, all under one roof. The contacts and friends you make will be there for ever if you choose to maintain your connections. We encourage you to return, each year you go back with MANGO it will cost you less and you will be relied on more by the project, giving you that sense of local ownership and roots which is so satisfying. Language can be a serious barrier to initiating making social connections, so we insist on pre-trip learning, and taking classes from local schools while you are abroad. More than this, we mix our volunteer groups to always include some members who are fluent in the local language, catalysing the process of social integration. You will never be alone ..... except of course when you seek your own company out on the beaches or surrounding countryside. |
