We thought we’d post an insight into the full time placements as our first post – nothing like coming straight from the horse’s mouth (not that we’re comparing volunteers to horses of course).

This morning the team left quite early int the morning. If I hearr well they went with Stuart to a forest. They return back talking about bird and plant species they’ve seen and try to ID. Quite interesting though its almost dinnertime and I haven’t got any food yet. I’m pretty upset as they smell like they’ve eaten pasties. I won’t forget this :-(

Awww, It’s raining…And such a cold weather, brrrrr. It’s better to stay with Jack now while the guys are working in the garden, helping in the store. We don’t spend much time together today. Alright, maybe it is better because they have to do many different things (birdwatching, go shopping to Totnes, etc).
One of them looks fairly nervous. What may be the problem? A few hours later I know it, she is speaking about waterbirds, everybody is listening to her, like me. She is introducing the subject for the week – I don’t really understand, all I know is I like wetlands as it means I can swim, but there are only pictures here - It started to be boring, I want to go to sleep.

On the first day of this brand new week, we are sitting in the kitchen again. The week starts like the previous one: Jack sets up the weekly plan for the Hungarian team: gardening, bird survey, hedges, TCCT. Sounds good. At last he tears a paper into four pieces, and writes one name on each. Let see who will scratch, feed, and play with me on this week. Monika chooses one paper and the name on it is Ancsa! Yesss! Let start, where is my ball? Oh, here it is! After some chewing I drop it into Ancsa’s lap, but my master says my name "Hollyyy" on the tone, which meens, not now. L After some minute I realized that they went in the wrong way. The game with the papers with name on it is something completly different than i thought. It was about some presentation about birds and wetlands. I like wetlands! I like water, I am labrador! I will help Ancsa to make the presentation!

I am going to the kitchen with Jack to make the plan of this week with the 4 hungarian guys. But only the boys are walking around there and I can see Jack’s face getting angry: „Ancsa and Monika are late again. I can’t believe this. They are always late.” After a while the girls come down and they can have their meeting while I always lick somebody and walk under the table. Then they are going to the garden to pull out some weeds and put them on the top of a big hill. Ohh I can see an unknown face. Who could he be? They are talking to each other and I can hear something like he is an english volunteer from Totnes and he will be with the team for 2 weeks. Brilliant…maybe he likes to play with me. After lunch we are going for a long walk around the estate while they stop at a few places, put something in front of their eyes and just look at the water. I can see some strange animals with feathers and the guys are even noting something about them on a piece of paper.
What is this noise in these late hours!?

Strange language, but it seems to me I have already heard it. And here you are, my master, Jack. I have missed you! It is already sleeping time. You brought these four guys to our place in Sharpam? Yes, it looks like. They are going to live with us, for at least 15 weeks, ‘cause they have big luggage. If my nose doesn’t cheat me, they are two girls and two boys. And yes, they are definitely from Hungary. There were already some Hungarians here, so I can recognize the smell of their sausages, through their bags. I am excited, but let’s go back to the yurt, and let them sleep in the guesthouse after the long journey!

The guys are spending the day in Paignton, in the Youngs Park, which is a little marsh owned by a local community group that we try to support. Jack left me home while they are building a platform. They told me it is to help local kids learn about the wet environment and the spess... spices... species, or something that live there. I don’t know, but I wish I was allowed to go. But they did not finish this work so we can return tomorrow and I can join!
But they work around the badgers, they are cutting down the trees and the bushes. After my master cut the big trees down with a noisy eqipment, they are throwing the branches down to a pile. I can help in this! Check the foto of us! ;-)
