To start with our name. igo is you… Your decision to move down a particular pathway in your life. MANGO stands for Monitoring Assistance for Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), which with our environmental focus simply means helping PEOPLE to work EFFECTIVELY with nature.
We emphasise PEOPLE because the world is moving away from putting practical environmental conservation into the hands of government. NGOs are just formalised groups of people. Governments may regulate, but they are inefficient down at street level. Practical conservation is much better done by NGOs and more and more they are being relied upon to manage our interaction with nature.
We emphasise EFFECTIVELY because NGOs work best when decision making is based on knowledge. Knowledge relies on observation, which is MONITORING what is going on in nature. So politics and pontification are out, reasoned decision making by informed people is in. Join us.
The people that contribute to running the igoMANGO Trust activities are enthusiastic, experienced scientists, teachers and administrators. We care about getting it right. We know volunteers can make a real contribution to nature conservation if properly managed, and that is what igoMANGO is all about.
The encouragement we offer is a grass-roots approach that has proven effective many times before. We have a diverse catalogue of positive previous experiences to help guide and support you on your igoMANGO adventure. Read on…
